The Federal Gov't owns roughly 650,000,000 acres of land

Printable Maps - Federal Lands

There are roughly eight buildable lots in each acre (43,560 sqft. divided by 5,000 sqft. = 8)

Some acreage is prime land (Cali, seaboard, etc) worth millions of dollars an acre, other land is not (worth maybe 10k to 50 per lot) so let's take 50k as the average worth of these roughly 5,200,000,000 buildable lots owned by the Federal gov't. That works out to $260 TRILLION Dollars in value. It's time the Federal gov't started selling off some of its land to China, Japan and our other creditors, (who would gladly take it for their citizens and corporations to immigrate here and then build houses and factories) in exchange for our debt.

You are being facetious, aren't you? Selling off our common heritage to foreign countries is simply blasphemous! That would be like selling Yosemite National Park to Disney World.

Actually, that's not a bad idea. I wouldn't imagine that the US would trade their sovereignty over the land, but they certainly could sell it. Why not?

Mind you, there is a bunch of land that the government is using to make money (leasing to oil companies, coal mining companies, lumber companies, etc). Perhaps that is why they won't sell it?

If I could personally escort you out of this country, i'd do it in a heartbeat. You deserve nothing less for such an assertion.

(PS. It wouldn't be Mr. Rogers knocking on your door, I can assure you that. )

I think the bears and moose would love McD's in what was the national parks.

They can become obese too.

Of course he is being facetious... but think of it this way... we are in debt and eventually we will have to sell "something" to pay back the US debt... so far we have been trading American worker "productivity"... but with increasing debt, "productivity" is not enough... soon enough it will be US "property"... probably something like commodities first (like buildings, gold, steel, etc)... the problem is, we still need these properties... I guess what I am trying to say, the more you make social programs, the more debt you have... why are you trying to sell America for the government to give you a "free" cellphone with a "free" monthly plan?

you have to remember that the federal goverment does not own that land in the 1st place, and has stolen it from the very states it is in, in the 1st place.

hw about getting a federal govement that has a budget that stays within a complete budget of 2% of the total gdp.

Think about this rationally. The government pays a pretty low interest rate on its debt. The return on investment for the land it holds (military bases, parks, etc.) is higher than that so it wouldn't make sense to sell it.

I've heard silly crap like this before....like when I worked the polls here last year with some GOP'ers. One such woman insisted we could actually sell our military bases to China. Hello? Such ideas are patently worthless.

I agree with selling off military bases it doesn't need, to developers or states, not the Chinese. The BRAC closed a number of bases including Fort Ord, of which some was converted into a university and the rest sold off to build new neighborhoods. There are bases in nice areas I'd like to see closed and converted to higher and better use. Camp Pendleton, Fort Belvoir, and some in Hawaii.
