I'd show it to expose them to show then:
-the effects of a severly divided polity
-the opportunity to point out dozens of poorly thought out and hackneyed arguments
-the multiple examples of non-sequitur and ad hominem attacks

Then I'd show them some of the most whacked out posts and remind them that the posters are all voters to!

We don't debate here. We just spew invective back and forth. I'm as guilty of it as anybody. I would definitely direct them to both of the following.

Correction, today's poli-sci professors would say he look, now that is the way you collapse a civilization, by pitting the people against each other. See class, the plan really does work.....

then as a project he can ask the class to present their prognostication of what comes next?

If they were a smart class Totalitarianism would probably be their prognostication.
