This morning, a lady called into one of our local radio shows and said, "We don't allow rapists, murderers, and pedophiles into the military...why should we let the gays in...?" I couldn't believe my ears!!
I've seen the same types of comments about gays here on this forum.

A gay person does not equate to any of the above. I wouldn't be able to believe my ears as well.
I agree..get rid of DADT....I wonder just throwing this out here..how many claimed to be gay to avoid the draft during Vietnam???
Obama could only temporarily suspend Don't Ask Don't Tell with an Executive Order, the Congress would have to vote on it to permanently suspend it... he is proceeding in the right manner.

I have a relative who did. I've wondered about that too. Maybe back then, being gay was so forbidden that it was very unlikely that anyone would say they're gay, even if they didn't want to go to war.
I don't really care. There's no such thing as an atheist or an "advertising" gay person in a foxhole. It's just you and your buddy, in it together while the bullets are flying.
I personally couldn't give a flip in general to DADT, but think they should be allowed to serve if they wish. If they screw up, just like heterosexual people, there are rules and reg's in place to deal with it.
Maybe I missed something but exactly what is getting done thanks to Obama?
The hearings on this issue are taking place, at least in part, because of Obama.
