Target is horrible. I used to work for them and remember a pregnant worker there. She got like 5 or 6 months along and one day she was called into a managers office. She was then told she was demoted and will no longer have insurance.
I remember her sitting outside and crying.....it stuck with me.
And now I see righties DEFENDING Target and other corporations who do this and blame it on Obama? It has been going on BEFORE Obama. In fact, BUSH as president when this happened. As I said "pro life only when you are in the womb. After that, to hell with you".
Stories like yours only tells me that there should be far more enforcement/legislation imposed upon employers making this a completely illegal, discriminatory practice.
It is, I believe only in a de facto kind of sense and employers easily get away with treating a lot of their employees in a completely unethical way.
It definitely HAS been going on for a very long time and, IMO it is contributing to a decay in our society, overall.
At the same time.......we cannot have a system molded after Sweden and other places and allow more long-term handouts too. (paid maternity leave of 5 yrs. or something?)
A fair system and one that quits placing corporation's high on a pedestal above the employee.
But nope......we the people are continously being screwed by both......the politicians and the corporations.
This has been the case under both parties for a very long time.
Interesting that the right would whine about this, since when Walmart, who has made this a practice for years, was discussed in past threads the right defended Walmarts actions. So with that in mind, would you Obama haters like some cheese with your whine?

These people are out here working and you hear those on the right screaming, "GET A JOB! GET YOUR OWN DA** HEALTH CARE!"
What they don't realize is that the number of employers providing health insurance has been dropping for some years now. Many companies are shifting higher costs to their employees or deciding to drop coverage all together.
So much for "GET A JOB! GET YOUR OWN DA** HEALTH CARE!"

Good. That will reduce revenue to health care companies and force them to offer more products that are out of pocket with high deductibles only to be used for catastrophic cases.

Many health insurance companies already offer these.
Why do you think high deductible plans are such a good thing?
Repubs offered selling ins. across state lines and other methods to increase competition. All that could be heard from the morons' mouths was "public option" and UHC.
The Democrats strategy is to depict the Republicans as not offering any health care reform plan when they have. Granted, the Republicans never instituted such measures before and their efforts were only in response to the threat from the Democrats to institute UHC aka the"public option." And granted, I will acknowledge the Republicans never had any intention of creating health care reform until the Democrats raised this issue
That being said, the Republicans have agreed to reforms but the Democrats got greedy and tried to institute UHC through the Public Option. And yes, a Public Option would lead to UHC as they would underbid private insurance which would lead to dissolution of private insurance. The Republicans have agreed to
1. Sell Insurance across state lines
2. Eliminate pre-existing conditions
3. Mandate employers provide insurance or else pay a fine
With the win in Mass., Obama and the Democrats are scrambling to save their jobs and thus are finally agreeing to do away with the Public Option so that we can finally get this thing rolling

Then, just a peep, a blip on the gd screen about allowing a so called "selling ins. across state lines". And by the way, who in fact is going to sell what across state lines, the stupid government? Insurance companies tell the states and the fed what they are going to do, not the other way around and the republicans know this because "News Flash" they've been bought and sold!

If you listen to the story, you'll see the GOP had a chance in the past to pass their ideas on health care but they didn't.
Of course they can cry now, say their ideas aren't being listened to and blame it on the Democrats. They had a chance to back up their rhetoric with action but chose not to.
You'll also see their isn't consensus. Just like some Democrats want single-payer, other's want a corporate giveaway. There is no consensus.
I don't see this as a Dem/Rep issue. It is a business decision by a private company. They are within their right to adjust costs as needed.
The thing that could make it political is if the current business or tax climate was so unfavorable that a company felt forced into cutting costs to stay profitable.
One of the favorite lines of the Democrats is "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few". How many hundreds of thousands of employees does Target have?

Can you put up a source for that "favorite line of Democrats"?
Even if the current business or tax climate is unfavorable and they had to cut costs to stay profitable, it's STILL a private business decision. It's not like the government FORCED them to cut costs.
You can't have your cake and eat it too on this argument.
