have you ever noticed that when a big storm comes non essential employees are told to stay at home.
If they are non essential employees why do we have them?

I'm hoping beyond hope for a snow day tomorrow since I'm considered non=essential. Snow day!

Best analogy I can give:

Have you ever noticed that when a big storm comes, police are still on patrol, even though schools are not in session?

Police are considered essential personnel.
Schools are not.

It's not that schools aren't essential, but at least all hell won't break loose.

Jerry, your show was a big hit in the 90's. Now it's time to give up comedy, count the royalty checks and enjoy retirement.

Its like saying you should have a dog grooming business open in the middle of a disaster area.

Yeah, some people might want their dog groomed, but it can wait until the disaster is over. I know, I'm part of an emergency management team, and I have to stay here during any natural disaster (mainly Hurricanes), regardless of how bad it gets. I have to report to duty as soon as the sustained winds drop below 35mph.

Cell service is vital, and engineers are needed. However, my bosses private secretary might not need to come in for a week.

Default Stop Wondering..We'e 're Saving Do-Re-Mi

House suspends votes this week, Senate may be out Wednesday

Washington’s latest snowstorm forced the House to cancel its voting schedule for the rest of the week, while the Senate plowed ahead but was considering canceling votes on Wednesday.

Anytime the weather brings congress to a standstill and sends them packin' is a bonus day that we taxpayers should celebrate.

No mo' money spent... We ought to send them home more often.

I've had my laughs about "essential employees", too. I'd be very afraid if I weren't an "essential employee".
