Believe it. They charged the kid with inappropriate behavior based on a webcam picture.
I am curious as to what was happening in the pic. . . . watching something inappropriate or sending inappropriate pics thru the camera?
The students and families didnt know the webcam was in the system.

Guy on another board whose kid goes to the school said "According to my son, a lot of kids believed it was happening and were taking a different action, even last school year, when they first gave out laptops. The action was to put a post-it note over the lens. "

Obviously GOPATTA2D you have never been to Gladwyne. It is Republican
BS. No self-respecting Republican would give a kid a laptop. We'd make them get a job, earn some coin, and buy their own. This is clearly the work of liberal educators.
A better question might be why is he trying to see anything at all? That's just one of many questions that should be asked. Again, assuming this is accurate information, this is wrong on so many levels.
Try reading the response from the school district.

Upon a report of a suspected lost, stolen or missing laptop, the feature was activated by the District's security and technology departments. The tracking-security feature was limited to taking a still image of the operator and the operator's screen. This feature has only been used for the limited purpose of locating a lost, stolen or missing laptop. The District has not used the tracking feature or web cam for any other purpose or in any other manner whatsoever.
A simple security feature to recover lost or stolen laptops. I'd say they are well within their right, since the laptops are school property.

Incorrect, as usual. They students did indeed know of the webcam, since they were invited to use it in their studies.
Have you ever looked at a laptop with a webcam? It is not "hidden" in any way.

Try living in the real world where people cover their rear ends after they realize they did something very stupid. This could very well be one of those times. Or maybe not. Either way, you're not going to be the one who makes that decision.

Allegedly.
Based on what I wrote and what the school statement said that was NOT "teachers spying on students". In fact, I haven't seen any evidence that any teacher could possibly do this. It seemed to be something the IT department had to do or at least help the Principal/VP do.
Like I said, the "something innapropriate" was using a laptop reported stolen. But that's just my read on it.
How many of us have wished we could "see" whoever it was that stole things from us...our car, our phone, our jewelry. Or our laptop!
