The best times might have been the early part of the 1900s when a lot of things were being invented and there was still a lot of wide open space. Imagine living in the times when cars first came out, telephones started going into homes, electricity suddenly lit up the evenings. All the really good stuff happened back then. Radios, airplanes, all kinds of machines.

Sure, the early 1900's were great if you were a white male, otherwise it pretty much sucked.

There will always be differences in how this country should be run, but the day cowards like you can praise terrorist is the day out country has slid down into the gutter. We need to flush people like you out...

Well, if you were a well-to-do white male, perhaps. The not so well-to-do pretty much had just as rough a go of it as everybody else...

Triumph of the scientific method. The penultimate achievement of the 20th century. Of course, we have a few latter-day types who would like to see the clock turned back on that...

I strongly believe our best years are yet to come. I have faith in future generations to be wiser than us.

Most that look back at the glory days gone by tend to focus upon those times when they were kids or teenagers. No duh... of course life was great when you were a kid. They aren't looking at the national past as much as they are looking back on their own life's past which leads to carefree days of youth.

No, even some females probably found some of the new inventions exciting. Imagine being a woman back then and going from gas lamps or candles to an electric switch that could light up a room. Or when the first vacuum cleaners came out and you didn't have to haul rugs outdoors and beat them. Think how exciting it must have been to get your first wringer washing machine and put away the wash board.

Those days were probably even better for everyone than they were for white males. Women still didn't have to hold full time jobs outside the home plus care for their children and keep up a house. They got to stay home all day, listening to the radio and using their newly invented appliances.
