You would support egalitarianism until you got rich, right?
We should focus on having three distinct social classes in America and keeping it that way- lower, middle, upper. Somebody has to scrub the toilets, somebody has to be the CEO, and then we have everybody else. That's how a civilized society works.

I dislike most of what the two major US parties stand for and find that libertarians are too extreme on the laissez faire side of things while socialists are too into top-down systems of control.
Important values:
- individual liberty, freedom of choice
- preservation of natural resources, habitat and environment
- egalitarianism (limiting the gap between rich and poor)
- community (belonging to the collective, caring for one another)
- minimal coercive power on the part of government or other institutions
- cooperative endeavors leading to mutual benefit
- respect for all life

While some jump to the conclusion this points to a hippie commune c 1967 it points to another thread in American life. Americans who wanted to live a God fearing life free of worldly temptations. To me it brings to mind the Ephrata Cloister in Pennsylvania or the Shakers and their communes in Upstate New York and the Midwest. The Shakers may be a memory but the Amish live much of this life style and show how this could work.

The trouble with those who fear God is that they don't fear Government, rather they embrace it, Government, that is!

Or even the Israeli kibbutz?
