Speaking as an independent that voted for Obama....largely due to hopes of getting our troops back home, I am growing increasingly upset with the democrats that demanded the troops home and now won't do anything.

Really, are you guys so far gone into the kool-aid that this is suddenly ok? Will you consider voting against the incumbents? Voting 3rd party?

Sadly, I am having a really hard time telling that Bush has left the whitehouse right now.

Please, thoughtful responses only...I don't want to have to read the usual stupidity from the partisans around here.

I really have no idea why we are still in Iraq, and we should pull out. I understand the reasoning behind the push in Afghanistan, although I'm not sure what we'll actually achieve in the long run. We have caused so much instability in Afghanistan we may as well cut our losses. This was a disasterous war, such a massive loss of human life, and we have achieved nothing.

It is "happening" they just make a plan and then change it...so essentially they are always bringing the troops home....just a slow pace, subject to change indefinitely.

During the campaign he promised all troops home by June or so of this year.

I am in favor of finishing what is started. One of the few things I agree w/ Obama on is more troops in Afghanistan - although it took him all day to make the decision.

The more he lets the military do their job and root out the enemy, the earlier our guys can come home.

Training Afghans to protect themselves - that could take awhile.

As far as Iraq goes, things are progressing and hopefully they will be complete soon. Being neighbors w/ Iran, it is imperative that they be able to protect themselves.

Yes, but what happened to the marches? The body counts? The scathing articles in the news? Is it suddenly no longer cool to be anti-war?

Sadly, I think the anti-war fad passed with the election.

Think about why that would be so.

Some things should not be promised. This is one of them. He cannot control the circumstances over there and the job needs to be done as well as possible.

If they are pulled out to early, then any progress we will have made would be lost - then it would truly be a waste of money.

I know many people don't know why we went over there - but we are there, and the enemy is there. We might as well get as much done as possible.

The Iraqi war is winding down. The troop level has remained consistant because of the national elections coming this month. We remain in place to temper the violence that is possible during the voting process. As soon as the elections are finished, it is my understanding that the troop withdrawall will be exponentially accelerated. We are required to be out of there completely by 2011 by order of the Iraqi government. The Afghani surge is working well, only time will tell, though.
