In reference to the Muslim world, I'm not referring to the Taliban, suicide bombers or Islamic terrorists. I'm referring to peaceful Muslims abroad. I think it's ironic the Islamic world and the Evangelical Christian society clash because they have much in common. Both cultures are very family oriented. Both cultures are deeply spiritual people who feel a connection to a higher power. They both discourage the use of drugs and alcohol. Both Muslims and Evangelical Christians encourage abstinence prior to marriage and discourage promiscuity. Both cultures traditionally lean toward the male breadwinner model while wives manage the family. It's a bit ironic that both cultures clash since they have much in common and aren't even aware of it. People seem to confuse Muslims' opposition to Western values as being the same thing as embracing terrorism. That's isn't what that means when they claim they reject Western values. The Western values they oppose include promiscuity, drugs and alcohol use, divorce, a lack of family values, homosexuality, and feminism among other ideals, the same ideas that Evangelicals are also opposed to. And like Evangelicals, they don't embrace terrorism. Their situation is similar to early Italian Americans living among the Mob. They didn't endorse the mafia but felt powerless to oppose them for fear of retaliation. It's the same with Muslims. Most of them oppose terrorism but remain quiet to protect their families. It doesn't make sense to me why Evangelicals in this country are so opposed to Muslims in general when they have more in common with them than liberal Americans like myself.
They fear that which is different. That is the answer. They are conservative and by definition conservatives are opposed to change and prefer to maintain certain values. It doesn't matter if Muslims share much in common with Evangelicans from an ideological perspective. The fact that Muslims are of a different religion, race and culture scares Evangelicals. They are threatened by Muslims because they are different. Look at the Stack case. Evangelicals and conservatives were hesitant to label Stack a terrorist even though his actions mimicked an Islamic terrorist. The Evangelicals held a double standard because Stack was not Muslim.
In the first place, don't confuse Christianity with western culture. Even though that culture was created out of a Christian base, they are not the same thing. Christianity is a faith in Jesus Christ, not a political movement or a cultural necessity.
Secondly, Muslim's and Christian's don't "clash" nearly as often as you may suppose. There is a very profound, very basic doctrinal difference between the two, but that does not keep Christian's from living among, working among and helping Muslim's right in their own back yards. The Islamic world, from Africa to the Middle East to the Balkans and right here at home, is covered with Christian ministries delivering food, water, health care, education and hope to millions every day. They mostly do that with the active support of the locals and generally go about their business without interference. Yes, sometimes politics results in violence and sometimes extremist's kill Christian's, but the work goes on. In most locations, Christian's are welcomed by the majority of the people they go to help.
Christian Talibani, Evangelicals not mainstream Christians, and hardcore Muslim terrorist have 99.5% in common. The only difference is Evangelicals call God Jesus, while Muslim extremist call god Allah. They are so self-righteous they need to wage a holy war over the proper name of God. Does God really care what you call him as long as you follow the tenets? If they were to realize this they could unite and impose a feudal theocratic fascist state upon the world, so thank god they are both so stupid.

Boy! If that don't take the cake!
You started a thread with this comment and then have the nerve to come onto this thread and condemn someone else for their self-righteousness?
"I hate walmart because its full of trash, im referring to people, that smell like cigarettes and are incredible obese"
Both religions are big on converting. Christians, more so, from my experience. If their religions "fit right" for themselves, they should not feel the "need" to recruit, and convert other people.

Sorry, but Christian's are under express and specific orders from Christ to spread the Gospel. We can't really be Christian's and keep it to ourselves.
You may not agree with that, but it's what drives us into the uttermost parts of the earth.
