this thing of govt employees getting guaranteed pensions for life and free, full cover health insurance funded by the taxpayer, is unfair. we should all have to shop for health insurance and pension coverage in the same market. oh and by state employees i mean everyone, from this president and including all the others, all the members of congress, past and present down to council street sweepers.

& what state pays out free, full cover health insurance!??

Perhaps you should investigate how group plans & choice of plans work for federal & state workers.

I'm a teacher who pays $345/month for my husband & my insurance premium, $100 yrly deductible each, 20% co-pay beyond that on routine medical.

$100 deductable, that's nice, mine will be 60 times higher than that. that's S-I-X-T-Y times higher. what about your pension? are you also at the mercy of the markets or is your one of them inflation busters guaranteed by the state?

I think it's just no longer affordable to continue these expensive pension plans and generous health packages for public sector retirees. It's bankrupting my state right now. Sure they are great plans, and my own mother in-law is an ex-state employee with one of these pensions/health care packages. It just isn't affordable anymore.

These are the benefits that partially make up for the low pay. Many government employees could make a fortune in the business world but are willing to work for less in order to work for a higher calling than corporate greed.

all federal employees DONT automaticly get a pension....you have to QUALIFY for it by working 20-30 years, work less than 20 you get NOTHING but your 401k

the federal health employee benifits are a PRIVATE health INSURANCE companies that YOU CHOOSE (BCBS, Aetna, GHI, etc) and YOU PAY FOR.(as a group, just like any civilian employeer)the premieum, along with the copays and the deductables..and it stops when you stop working
