Nice spin to that article.

They've sacrificed for 3 years.
They make modest salaries.

And then go on to say they will work with their "friends" in Congress to get that changed.

Well they can go on food stamps and medicaid like the rest of the underpaid workers in America.
With reporting a salary of $24K per year, that article is sure shooting for pity from the readers.

Right now many federal workers, especially in DoD, are more concerned with possible furloughs and RIF actions than the percentage of raise.

Compensation is a very vague term.

Once u factor in benefits (paid 11 federal holiday vs only 5-6 paid holidays for private). Factor in health benefits which are more subsidized for federal workers spouses and family than the private industry. ).

Factor in some bogus 9/80 work hours federal workers do.

You get my drift. Plus many private sectors now roll sick leave with paid time off whereas federal place separate them plus temp disability.

It all adds up these "benefits" federal works get over the private sector.

I know that hurts the American mind to think of but it is true in sectors of the Fed. I know a lot of federal employees here in DC. They do their job because they honestly believe in what they are doing. They damn sure don't stay because of the pay or even the benefits. Many fed employees over the age of 30 could go to the private sector and make a lot more.

I note over 30 because they then have the experience to pull the wages. A friend of mine finally left fed service because she was so far in debt from student loans she couldn't take spinning her wheels, financially, any more. So she went private sector. And was hired on as a VP for a major oil company making roughly 3.5 times what she made for the fed - starting out. Because that is what she was worth. Her case is not anomalous.

Another recently left to work for a nonprofit organization. Her starting salary is almost twice what she made for the fed.

Federal employees and their wages can no more be lumped together than lumping all businesses together, both large and small.

So you are a compensation expert?

Generally speaking, many federal employees do not make what they could in the private sector.
It's a revolving door in some agencies.

State, county and municipal employees are a different matter and of course this varies all over the U.S. It's necessary to look at the whole picture, compensation and benefits, to compare and contrast to the private sector.
