Civil Rights movement had "unrealistic expectations"? Why not just write what they were thinking, "them darkies got too uppity too fast". I don't know what they gained by excluding the fact that Hispanics died at the Alamo.

No Ceasar Chavez or Thurgood Marshall, but the guy who made the yo-yo is real academic stuff.

Let me get this straight. We have democratically elected body, who are supposed to represent the people who elected the. That said body IS acting in the way the people want them to act. And you are complainning.

Hint, don't move to Texas.

All those proposals the board considered came from teachers.
And it's not final yet..the vote is in May.

Until I actually see what's in these textbooks I can't really comment. In most classes text books are used to spark discussion and further study/sources are used (or at least that's how it is supposed to work) so it's not like things NOT in the book will never be discussed. Not everything CAN be in a book.

Texas Textbook MASSACRE: 'Ultraconservatives' Approve Radical Changes To State Education Curriculum

"Keep reading, or see a slideshow of the most radical changes approved by Texas's education board"
You should really do more research on the topics that you post.

First of all, the new cirriculum was simply "proposed" by a panel of teachers. The Board of Education revised what the cirriculum should be based on the fact that they felt that the teachers were applying too much of a liberal bias.

Thus, it appears that the LIBERALS started the assault on the cirriculum through their decade interval revision process... and now are simply playing victim, as always, that the conservatives are trying to change everything. Ironic.

Plus, further:

"The curriculum standards will now be published in a state register, opening them up for 30 days of public comment. A final vote will be taken in May, but given the Republican dominance of the board, it is unlikely that many changes will be made."

This was all taken from a much less liberal biased source. It might just do you a little good to educate yourself on it.

Amazing how your blind belief only in science is considered enlightened while anyone's belief in Religion is being small minded. Ever stop to consider that some of us can deal with both science and religion at the same time? Or is your mind to tightly focused on being anti-religion?

They very well may have had unrealistic expectations, did they really think that something that has been ingrained into the minds of so many would go away in just 50 years? Just because it is right does not mean it will happen right away. You have to give it time, mainly to let the older generations who will not budge die off before somethings change.

So yea, maybe it isn't popular to say so, but in many ways unrealistic expectations sums up a lot about this country. Kinda like the unrealistic expectations of certain individuals who voted for hope and change thinking it would all get better just as soon as he was sworn in....
