another elephant in the room of recovery. we have 26 states that are out of unemployment funding,(they are borrowing) and others are on the edge:

All States | ProPublica Unemployment Insurance Tracker

you stop the unemployment and throw a lot of people off, and that is the end of the "recovery".

Don't forget the p/t workers. That stimulus bill awarded unemployment insurance to part time workers. Any state that accepted it had to change their laws to make it permanent.
The stimulus money funded it for 2 years and is then the state's burden. We are now past year 1 and into year 2.

It's so easy for someone (the Government) to demand that someone else pay, isn't it. The Government is like this nebulous, ghostly monster, all powerful, that seeps into every aspect of our lives and saps us of our dreams, our energy, our hopes by the demands is makes, and we can do nothing about it. And, it's not OK.

Most people have forgotten or never learned from the story in the Bible of the 7 years of abundance followed by the 7 years of famine.
Or the story of the ant and the grasshopper.

We Americans never seem to learn that being frugal and saving for a rainy day are good habits to acquire.
Maxing out credit cards and taking out second and third mortgages to pay for cruises and weekends in Las Vegas and then expecting your neighbor to bail your keester out is impudent and insulting to those that live within their means.

Cut up your credit cards
Make meals at home
brown bag it to work
forget about McDonald's
take public transportation
cancel your cable subscription
use less utilities
keep unnecessary purchases to a minimum

Excellent advice, but for most people it's the proverbial closing the barn door after the horse is out. A bit too late to save what counts, so they need bailouts.

Everyone who has a hand out ought to be required to take Dave Ramsey's financial education courses. But then, Democrats would be undermined so that would never go over.

you can do all of this like you said above plus dip into your savings plus dip into to retirement funds ....... But the bottom line is there are no jobs in certain states and counties to for fill the needs of the people.... Unemployment rates has risen in some places this month as high as 17% ..... the jobs bill is great but many business is not accepting it because no one is spending for them to keep afloat ......so bottom line it is a win win situation for everyone.....16 million Americans are unemployed...... 16 million dollars and more less taxes in many states and counties budget equals massives cuts in government jobs and programs and don't forget higher taxes for the ones that do have a job ......crime, domestic abuse will rise through the ceiling, bank robberies will rise, forclosures and the list goes on and on

99 weeks of unemployment compensation???

Then what? Stand on street corners selling apples and pencils?
Or maybe stick - up the corner 7/11?

I'd bet dollars to donuts that many on unemployment have not changed their lifestyle 1 iota.

During the Depression we saw many people standing in line to get a bowl of soup.

Maybe they should apply for one of those saved or created jobs that Oblahblah keeps yammering about.

We ain't seen the bottom of this Job Recession yet. 10%-20% unemployment in many areas of the country. And the Country going broke because of Bank, Insurance Company and Car Company bailouts. A DeathCare system that will cost $$$Trillions if jammed through Congress and signed by Odufuss. Cap and Tax which will cost us more in heating and fuel bills. Capped off with 12-20 million illegals granted amnesty who will continue sucking at the Government teat.

Great things to look forward to, eh?

You pretty well covered it. Couldn't have said it better m'self. A lot of these unemployed have never had to 'make do' with less because the milk and honey (paycheck) were flowing. Now that the flow is reduced, they're frantic. It may not occur to them to cut the spending. What a novel idea. Didn't Oblahblah (good name for him since he's always on the campaign trail with empty rhetoric) give a speech a while back on how to save money?

The jobs bill also includes the "Doc" fix. They wouldn't put it in the Obamacare bill because the debt is so high already on that one.

Medicare "Doc Fix" Attached To Senate Jobs Bill

What would have happened if the money was not extended?
I think it's time to suck it up and stop this march toward madness.

I was talking with a friend about the news where Hawaii residents are being warned that the state is broke but we the people are going to have to wait for awhile for state refunds if due. I didn't care they never give me anything back; I can't even get the child credit.

Hawaii's broke and people over here are acting like the money grows on trees.

Although, lately our Governor Lingle seems to be tightening the belt pretty good.

Oh, who knows what's going to happen

Obama makes me feel real uneasy.
