This is a major break with the church's bishops, who have strongly opposed the legislation on the grounds that some federal subsidies may end up funding abortions. Although the Senate bill does contain provisions that prohibit the use of federal funds for abortion—similar to the existing Medicaid provisions—bishops have been arguing that the bill is not rigid enough. Nuns disagree.
Have nuns EVER collectively taken a stance in opposition to the bishops? This is great!
Someone needs to call Glen Beck! Will he say that Catholics should run from their church because it supports "social and economic justice"? Are Catholic nuns really commie socialist nazi Marxists??
Beck:
Quote:
I beg you, look for the words ’social justice’ or ‘economic justice’ on your church Web site. If you find it, run as fast as you can. Social justice and economic justice, they are code words. Now, am I advising people to leave their church? Yes! …
If you have a priest that is pushing social justice, go find another parish. Go alert your bishop and tell them, “Excuse me are you down with this whole social justice thing?” If it’s my church, I’m alerting the church authorities: “Excuse me, what’s this social justice thing?” And if they say, “yeah, we’re all in that social justice thing”—I’m in the wrong place.
Years ago, I remember seeing a documentary on nursing orders serving as missionaries in Africa. They weren't supposed to provide counseling about condoms as a method of lowering risk of HIV infection.
These ladies are in the trenches every day - they see what lack of health care does to women, children and families. I applaud them.
From MSNBC:
""Despite false claims to the contrary, the Senate bill will not provide taxpayer funding for elective abortions," said the letter signed by 60 leaders of women's religious orders. "It will uphold longstanding conscience protections and it will make historic new investments ... in support of pregnant women. This is the real pro-life stance, and we as Catholics are all for it." "

If they had an opposite opinion, you wouldn't applaud them, you would slam them. Don't even act like you wouldn't.
