I think it's time for the US reassess it's "special relationship" with Israel. Israel needs the US far more than the US needs them. With Israelis, Obama holds the distinction of being the most unpopular US President. American Jews are more loyal to Obama, they are American after all, not Israeli. Let Iran build their bomb and then they and Israel can blow one another off the planet and then finally the rest of the world can live in peace.
What do you think? Should the US dump Israel or not?
At what point will the West dump Israel?
"US taxpayers have every reason to feel that Israel, as the largest single recipient of US foreign aid, is already a massive financial liability. Even so, since most of those tax dollars get plowed straight back into the US defense industry, Washington is unlikely to become more attentive to the concerns of ordinary American citizens than it is to the interests of its corporate sponsors.
Nevertheless, there is now reason to think that with the murder of Mahmoud al Mabhouh in Dubai, Israel crossed a line that strains the limits of Western tolerance."

I know that folks these day see every issue as a zero sum bargain, but there is a vast spread of options between dumping Israel and continuing the status quo.
Interesting question. I've been thinking about that lately. $60 billion in aid/military is a lot of money. I can understand having a close relationship with them, but our ties seem to go beyond that. We seen to be big brother/protector to them. I would like to better understand why.

Same here. I'm in the process of researching some books to read about the US-Israel relationship, why it's so entangled, and why we can't just walk away. I don't understand what exactly we get in return from Israel for our aid, other than public humiliation every time one of our envoys goes to visit (as happened to Biden a few weeks ago), and terrorist attacks from their enemies. Doesn't sound like much of a trade-off.
From 1949 through 2009 the United States has given Israel $106.1 Billion Dollars. We are suppose to give them another 3 Billion in direct aid again next year.... Who knows what Israel gets in indirect aid - trillions?....
The US has Over Served its purpose as a Country Adoption Agency.
Israel is no longer an orphan The 7.3M folks in Israel
have a Home Israel is all grown up now and they should be on their own
Don't you just hate it when the kids won't move out of the house Just like parents, The US has done their job. Now it's time for Israel to go And don't go calling us at 3 in the morning when you get in trouble, okay
Fifty years too late. It is a quagmire of Biblical proportions. Neither side deserves any support.
The only time they have lived in peace is when a third power hade a foot on their throats
The United States is a destablizing influence in the Middle East. It's time for America to stop telling Israel where it can and cannot build houses, and whom it can or cannot wipe off the face of the Earth.
Let's step away and let Israel flex its muscles and kick the hell out of its neighbors,...both Iran and the Palestinians. Then watch what happens here in America.
