Well, unfortunately, in the US there are a lot of gun toting redneck uneducated idiots. So there is a reason to inspire fear based on the trigger happy nature of this populace. Fortunately, there are also a lot of gun toting, educated, sane American citizens who won't stand for shi*, especially coming from their rebel rousing fellow citizens who can't construct a valid platform for their ideas if their life depended on it.
