I keep hearing about this government takeover of the health care system. Yet from what I can tell, I am still going to buy into a private health care plan and see my private doctor under this new law. The main change is that people without insurance will now be required to buy it - from a private company. That sounds more like a private company/forced capitalism "takeover" to me. There is no single-payer. No government-run clinics. No government-run option even. I just don't get the argument. Someone enlighten me.

Could someone tell me exactly how or what the government has taken over here?

Exactly.

Private interests/corporations have taken over OUR government.
It's time the government started working FOR the people instead of the greedy corporations.

The bill was basically written by the health insurance industry.

The health insurance industry tried to make it look like they were against reform. Sure they hated the public option but that wasn't a big threat to them anyway. In any case, they won, the people lost. End of story.

I'll keep donating to candidates and political parties that support single-payer.

Government-run plan: No government-run insurance plan. People purchasing coverage through new insurance exchanges would have the option of signing up for national plans overseen by the federal office that manages the health plans available to members of Congress. Those plans would be private, but one would have to be nonprofit.

I don't think it will help conservatives/tea partiers who mis-inform the public on this health care bill. Over the months leading up to the mid-term elections more voters will get some clarity on this bill as far as what it is and isn't.

The government is forcing insurance companies to insure people who are higher risks. The government can deny rate increases that they deem not justified. Once the insurance companies start losing money and the government denies rate increases, what happens?

No they cannot. That was a deal Obama made with the insurers..the government will not cap their rates.

Only your subsidy is capped..to the CPI.
So if insurance premiums go up 40% but the CPI goes up 2% then your subsidy goes up only 2%. The other 38% increase comes out of your pocket.
