This is the same Fred that picketed Mathew Shepards funeral.

One Veteran's Voice: A Group Blog by Veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan

I believe people should be allowed to mourn without this scum present. His freedom is interfering with theirs.

It's ignorant to assume that everyone that's on the far right condones this kind of crap, because you're wrong -- they don't.

One kook actions doesn't speak for others, they speak only for the kook committing those actions.

I'm Christian, and extremely conservative (but I support gay rights and gay marriage). What this jerk did was wrong.

I feel so sorry for the Father in all of this. It's just sickening. Why can't the police arrest this guy and his bunch?

You've tried to justify everything else, including the OKC bombing. So, I'm sure this shouldn't be too much of a stretch..

Won't begin to defend Phelps . . . . but don't miss the irony of the courts upholding one's right to expression and the outrage of those begging the courts to uphold their own.

i think it is great that the court believes in free speech and i also think that it would only be fair to publish the ruling judge's name (and address) so that the rest of the country could exercise their own right to free speech and interrupt the judge's peace, maybe with a quiet protest on his lawn.

it is ridiculous that judges can sit with impunity for their actions.

i hope that this dead soldier's father takes this all the way to the supreme court for justice.

It is an absolute requirement if the goal is to have an impartial judiciary.

Phelps has run in various Kansas Democratic Party primaries five times, but has never won. These included races for governor in 1990, 1994, and 1998, receiving about 15 percent of the vote in 1998.[57] In the 1992 Democratic Party primary for U.S. Senate, Phelps received 31 percent of the vote.[58] Phelps ran for mayor of Topeka in 1993[59] and 1997.[60]

What if they were naked while holding their signs and protesting, would that be okay too, since "they're not putting the public in danger"?

It's just not a decent thing to be doing in a civil society. We have laws in most states to help promote a civil society. For example, its against the law for a naked man to don his raincoat and run around flashing women in the streets. We have laws against some types of lewd and disruptive behavior in public, so all we need are some state laws against heckling or protesting within a certain radius of a funeral.
