It's because these recipients of entitlement programs are so stupid, they don't know what entitlement means, much less spell the word correctly.

I've met people like this on Medicare come to my office for a check up. Then as they leave the door, they go into a spiel about how the US is going to the dogs, citing the example of the new health care law as "socialism".

I don't know about this specific case as I try to stay out of the minds of nit wits.

But what I am familiar with is the Republican Influence in the Church!!!

The Republicans have been promising to curtail or stop abortion since the 70's and the "right to life" movement of the church has intersected and joined them wholeheartedly.

Never mind most of the poor innocent souls sitting in that church will never be protected in one way by the Republican Party. Not that the Democrats protect them either, but they are not supporting the Democrats, so that doesn't matter. Notice abortion rules have not changed much since Roe V Wade, but the church still pushes it and the republicans can't change it....

The end answer to your question is plain and simple, IGNORANCE.

Just like most people that I hear complain about paying income taxes, doesn't actually pay them. They simply do not know any of the FACTS, they have heard someone say this, it makes sense in their mind, and they adopt the attitude or grievance based on hear say.

Sure the taxes are withheld from their pay each week, which is what they DO NOTICE, but they get it all back at the end of the year because they didn't follow the directions on their W4 form when they were hired or they like to get that money at the end of the year.

It is just the American people, who have not been involved in the political process until they hear something inflammatory, and they start spouting off at the mouth without the knowledge or facts to back it up.

Kinda like the News does

I couldn't have said it better. I am also mid 60s (but female) and am grateful to be living in 2010 rather than 1955.

Why Do White Recipients Of Entitlement Programs Hate Entitlement Programs.
If I had the need tell me one good reason why I shouldn't take advantage of government programs my tax dollars support? I'm just getting back what was mine to begin with, my argument is that it should have been mine all the time.

I hear the same argument about members of Congress that want to get rid of pork but take it anyway. Of course they do and should. It's there constituents tax dollars and there is absolutely no reason someone else should benefit from those funds.

While I do think it is OK to receive such help when needed, I don't think one should take it unless one really needs it, just because one is entitled to it. Such systems are not personal savings accounts, in which one's former contributions are saved until withdrawn, but redistribution tools to help people who need it, whether they had contributed or not.

Are you trying to say that people who engage in "teabagging" should not receive S. S. benefits? In my view all of those who pay S.S. taxes-tax with in turn is supposed to be returned to them later in life-should receive it, regardless of what kind of sex they engage in. All S.S. tax payers (teabaggers, homosexuals, bisexual, heterosexual, Democrats, Republicans, communists, haters, lovers, crazy ones, and so forth), have the right to receive a portion of the money taken away from them.

However, if one were allowed to save or invest one's S.S. taxes instead of giving it to the government, then I would agree with you that one should not receive S.S. benefits of any kind.

When you have such a massive amount of Americans getting government handouts these days you will find them in any large crowd. I wouldn't be surprised at all though if a smaller % of those in the tea party movement get handouts compared to the general population.

Probably. Maybe because the Tea Party is overwhelmingly white, while statistically most minorities are poorer.

Ok - that is a bit extreme but only a bit.

I like and enjoy this post! I think it's interesting to look at it as a generational problem.

I'm in my mid 20's with a college education. So much of my world has been dominated by a proactive government. so many of my generation have learned the benefits of a government at work. From college to health care and transportation.

We enjoy the type of society that was unspeakable in the 1950's or 1960's. The world is no longer black and white.
