Basically, oil needs to be WAY higher than $85 a barrel, as Simmons explains. Oil is only about 15 cents a cup and heavily subsidized by a variety of factors. When oil hits $200 or $300 per barrel, a lot of changes will be made on localizing resources and telecommuting. There is no solution nor does there seem to be one (or a combinaton of solutions) on the horizon.

I'm not holding my breath.
There are no major fields which haven't already peaked, and the Saudis aren't allowing audits of their fields. No major discoveries for over 40 years either.

Peak oil won't be the end of the world. It'll just feel that way for many.

That way, oil can be used for heating and other things.

We could also start making homes more efficient. Mass production of new windows, improve insulation...etc.

Or we can let the market fix things (always reactionary to a problem, never proactive) and wait until China, India and the like are consuming even more and we have to fight them for it.

I know which one we'll do, and it makes me sad.

sigh............
And that's why you need to be aware and prepare because the government is not going to be there in time.

Yes, but they weren't predicting the global peak would take place in 1956...

Sad part is that we have plenty of oil.
Some just won't let us get to it though.

There must be a very good reason.
Wish it was out in the open.

Some seem to forget that the price we pay now which is around 290 a gallon could jump up to 5 or 6 bucks a gallon overnight and we couldnt stop it now as we couldnt stop it before. We are sitting ducks while the money grubbers wait and plan their next move to milk us dry...

Cars are already being ordered to get more MPG, the weatherization program has been given alot of $ to weatherize as many as they can. If this comes to pass it will be the perfect UN utopia. This is what they have been organizing for years. Walk, ride bikes and use public transportation. Don't forget the map they have for the rails in the U.S., funny same ones we are organizing across the U.S. now, what a coincidence. Another ideal they promote is roundabouts in cities. Wi is getting them in many cities. Do I think there is alittle more going on--without a doubt!

" Oil crunch by 2012, say military experts"
Quick, we better send America's fighting forces to topple the regime in Saudi Arabia so that we can claim their oil reserves as ours.
