I swear it is not my imagination, but ever since Arizona did it's show-me-your-papers thing, I'm getting dirty looks, short answers and frowns from the Hispanic people in my life (I'm white).

Nevermind that I'm pretty far left, enjoy diversity and open to strangers like a 1950s midwesterner.

Sorry, I'm just whining, but this is just another thing that makes modern life in America lousy. Us against them at every turn.

When you say people in your life, to what degree?

If they are actual friends or acquaintances, I'd say you can do without them. If it's just people on the street, total strangers, well, not much you can do but keep walking, carefully though. I am concerned that this whole issue will spark some violent uproar.

I haven't noticed dirty looks, but yesterday my wife & I were on the motorcycle puttering around downtown. We came to stoplight & a Hispanic guy in an old white Ford Probe pulled up next to us, looked at my wife, looked at me, and started revving his engine.

I suppose there's a deeper meaning in there somewhere - maybe even with racial implications - but I just assumed that the guy is a moron.

I can't wait for amnesty. These quassi libers are going to find out the Hispanic male is one macho critter to deal with.

No women will be able to go anywhere or do anything un-escorted. In the Hispanic worls the women are treated like sluts when they are not escorted by a old woman in the case of a female child, or a husband in the case of a woman.

The Hispanic male has no problem with beating a woman down either, and more so if she isn't escorted.

It should prove to be interesting.

I'm talking about co-workers and soccer mates along with complete strangers. I can have sympathy for anyone, but why do I always have to be "the man?"

But I think you are right, as Texas, Colorado and other states consider the same thing it could get ugly.

im sure that everyone knows that we all have to show id to go somewhere what is the big deal if you are legal ? i mean i dont have anything against anyone coming to this country but do it legally and pay your fair share of taxes and yeah you have to show a birth certificate in some states now to get a drivers license from my understanding and that is everyone not just hispanics . alabama is now considering only giving the drivers license test in english only . Okay I dont have a problem with that since my ancestors came here from italy and they had to learn english not the other way around and it is like everyone is saying now "we are better than that we want to speak our native tongue everywhere we go so we will be more comfortable " what would have happened if our ancestors had felt that way ? what language would we be speaking ? alot of different ones I venture to say . I think people need to accept this for what it is and get over it . Just do what you have to do and get on with life . There are things that we dont like but cannot change it so get over it and move on .

You better get used to being 'the man'. Any sign of weakness, and your game is up.

You might be surprised to learn how many "quasi libers" have actually been to Mexico, or actually have close friends of Mexican origin, and actually know something about Mexico and the people from that culture. They do not need to be "educated" about Mexican culture by right-wing blog-readers who toss out a one-word epithet that purports to sum up centuries of culture in huge country that they know nothing about except a few stereotypes picked up from comic books, B movies and bar-room banter.

Why don't you tell me what Hispanic culture is like. I've lived in six Latin American countries and traveled in all of them and speak fairly good Spanish. I'm dying to know what I've missed. Please tell me.

Mexicans are not the same as illegals... Tourists don't get to see some things, and are protected from seeing many things.. You as a tourist get to see the haves and not the have nots..

I spent time in Hispanic places, and I am telling you that if i were not as macho as they, I wouldn't be here typing right now.

6 or 8 Hispanics with sugar cane machettoes can be deadly, against one.

I assume one of your favorite drinks is 5 lbs of sugar and a gallon of OJ.

I live in Denver, a city with a high Hispanic population and I have not personally noticed this (I am also white). In all honesty, most of the Mexican men that I have met are good, hard working and peaceful people, quite opposite of the descriptions presented above.

For the record, the state of Colorado is not "considering" a law similar to that in Arizona. We have just made the headlines because the Republican Gubernatorial candidate Scott McInnis said that if he were elected, he would like to "enact a law similar to that of Arizona's." Even if this clown were to get elected, they would have to get the bill through our Democratic majority legislature and I don't see that happening.
