Does this book have it right? It possibly offers the best explanation of state of some blacks in the inner city.
Quote:
The title essay is based on Sowell's thesis about the origins of the "black ghetto" culture.
Sowell argues that the black ghetto culture, which is claimed to be "authentic black culture", is historically neither authentic nor black in origin. Instead, Sowell argues that the black ghetto culture is in fact a relic of a highly dysfunctional white southern redneck culture which existed during the antebellum South. This culture came, in turn, from the "Cracker culture" of the North Britons and Scots-Irish who migrated from the generally lawless border regions of Britain.
Sowell gives a number of examples that he regards as supporting the lineage, e.g.,
an aversion to work, proneness to violence, neglect of education, sexual promiscuity, improvidence, drunkenness, lack of entrepreneurship,… and a style of religious oratory marked by strident rhetoric, unbridled emotions, and flamboyant imagery.
Where did the White Liberal come from? That was out of left field. Why not just throw in Russian Communist or Middle East Terrorist while you are at it. Better yet, illegal immigrant.

I guess here.

Many liberal intellectuals celebrate black ghetto culture as “authentically” black and denounce any criticism of it (or any attempt to change it) as “blaming the victim.” As the author brilliantly puts it:
By cheering on counterproductive attitudes, making excuses for self-defeating behavior, and promoting the belief that “racism” accounts for most of blacks’ problems, white intellectuals serve their own psychic, ideological, and political interests. They are the kinds of friends who can do more harm than enemies.
This condescending attitude toward black pathology also explains why most liberal academics and education “experts” are quick to demand more money to fix failing public schools, yet turn a blind eye to the manifold examples of inner-city private and charter schools across the country that have a track record of successfully educating poor minority schoolchildren. Sowell points this out in his essay on black education.

LMaoooooooooooooooooooooo
okay....besides this being a stormfront troll post..
So can Sowell explain why the socialist countries that provide governement support for it's citizens are currently the top countries for entrepeneurship, business, education, research, and technology development....and those hard working, intelligent, socially aligned are dropping in the rankings, losing financial superiority, and in massive debt?
The title of this thread was 'black rednecks' 'white liberals'....I want to stick to my own observations on that....
I've spent a lot of time in Georgia, and the south...and the vast majority of blacks I see are 'country folks'...and live in small rural towns scattered through out the south...there's nothing 'urban' about them...they are 'country' and have 'country' mannerisms...
This idea that blacks only live in Detroit, and Chicago housing projects is way off the mark...and only one who isn't well traveled or educated would think that...
In other words someone who gets all their information from text books, or talk radio or Hollywood productions.
Now as far as 'white liberals'...I have no idea what that really means...I think that's more of a convient term used by talk show hosts to lump all people who disagree with them into one diabolical bucket....
In other words...they define 'liberal' as being 'evil'...and then conviently call people that who disagree with them...regardless of why they may disagree...
To me it makes you intellectually lazy to call a man a name, rather than to listen or consider their view point or angle...
