That is right! Quite possibly a back up valve shut off could have saved us this. It is mandated by such "third world" countries like Norway and Brazil. But not here. No, we cannot force the poor oil companies to install a back up! How dare we do that! Because the MMS, under the REPUBLICANS and GW Bush decided that $500,000 was too costly for the poor oil companies to pay to install it. The same Republicans and GW Bush that limit their liability to $75 million no matter what kind mess they cause. And you people are mad at WHO?
They should be mad at people like Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Big Oil). She and her Republican pals want the American taxpayers to foot the bill for the cleanup.
Quote:
US Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee member Lisa Murkowski has urged Congress not to overreact legislatively to the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.
On May 13, Murkowski and other Republicans blocked Senate Democratic attempts to pass the "Big Oil Bailout Prevention Liability Act" which would cap BP's liability at $10 billion, even if damages from the Gulf of Mexico oil spill surpass that figure.
--------
It has been reported that Murkowski, a drilling supporter, has received at least $300,000 in campaign contributions from the oil and gas industry.

Who has been in charge of the Senate and Congress for the last four years? Who has been president for a year and a half.
Time to own up to responsibility. This is Obama's oil spill.
What does the Senate and Congress have to do with Bush appointees who allowed this to happen regarding letting BP go without the safe-guard device? The Senate and Congress don't vote on things like that.

I agree. It is 100% the fault of the Republicans and GW Bush. We will suffer for decades because of GW Bush.

Didn't Clinton have appointees in the same positions who didn't mandate the safe guard device on wells? Didn't Obama appoint people in the same positions, who failed to mandate use of the safe-guard device? Don't they care about safe oil rigs, clean water and the potential environmental impact of an oil spill?
Good lord, you people are a broken record with little capacity to formulate thoughts outside of "Bush did it."

"The Bush administration's ties to oil and gas are as deep as an offshore well. President George W. Bush's family has been running oil companies since 1950. Vice President Dick Cheney spent the late '90s as CEO of Halliburton, the world's largest oil services company. National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice sat on the board of Chevron, which graced a tanker with her name."
Now tell me again, what connections did Clinton have to the oil industry to make him act as favorably to them as the Bush administration?
