I'm catholic. I always give within my local community. That's how things should work. Your community knows best what it needs. It should be a bottom up approach, local up to the federal level.
I don't mind at all my tax dollars being used to protect our country, for infrastructure or for even a safety net for people that fall on hard times.
But it makes me sick that my money is used for a welfare state. Supporting generations of people sucking off of government handouts.

All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had. With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and much grace was upon them all. There were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to anyone as he had need.

Any Christian who does not give to help the poor is not really a Christian in the first place, right?
Where does the bible preach I must give up my cash?? If you actually read the passage, it does not talk about money. I can help the poor without spending a dime of my gold.
Not when they are given everything the USA has to offer. Everyone is more than capable to fend for themselves, in a free place God now calls, The United States of America.
Where our Founding Fathers made sure your destiny was in your hands, not a King. Yet the poor want the King to feed them. Are you going to sell your soul to the King just to eat?
Personally I could live off the land and never have to make a dime. But I have a wife.
