Hi, I am probably going to take a job in Vero Beach so I would move my family to the area. I have 2 childern 10 and 13. It is important that I am in a safe area with good schools. I want a family type neighborhood, don't care about nightlife. I want to spend about $200,000 on the home.Would anyone have any input on where I should consider? Vero Beach, Sebastian, Fort Pierce?

Sebastian's schools are better than Vero Beach's and Sebastian is more family-oriented than Vero Beach in my opinion, which tends more toward retirees.

I would pick Sebastian. I could be wrong, but I think Fort Pierce would be too far away. Vero Beach is too "old" for kids. Sebastian is just a lovely area that is more family oriented.

A couple of years ago, Sebastian HS was listed in a 100 best high school poll somewhere, possibly Time or Money Magazine. I felt very safe living in Vero Beach but there is Gifford, a section of VB that no one talks about.

I moved to Vero with my 3 sons almost 11 years ago. They entered school here in 1st and 2nd grades. I found the schools to be great, the town to be safe and the beaches beautiful. Sebastian is also very nice and has good schools and nice beaches. Stay away from St. Lucie County though - they bus kids from one end of the county to the other for school and your children could end up in a not-so-nice area.

Both Vero and Sebastian have lovely areas, middle of the road areas and seedier areas. You'll be able to tell quick enough which is which. Vero has a very nice downtown area (reminds me a lot of Santa Barbara) and Sebastian has the Sebastian Inlet for fishing, swimming and snorkeling. You can't go wrong with either Vero or Sebastian.

**edit - Vero Beach high school has also been named to nations best high school list.

PSL does not bus their kids from one end to the other. PSL has school ZONES where you can choose what school you want to go to in that entire zone. But, the poster did not ask about PSL either.

I don't know how someone starts a "poll"..but could someone make one that asks about the best place of these to retire?

Best to read the other forum posts or just start a thread. A poll could be voted on by anyone stopping by without ever having lived in any of the locations you are considering. It wouldn't give you any answers to the questions you probably have.

Well, sure..but anyone can voice any opinion they want on the forums as well...and I for one appreciate the poll above..even though "best place to raise a family" is not relevant for me.

9 people voted..so I'd say only people with some type of data have chimed in..even if it was only spending a long weekend in the area.

I would like to see more polls..they would be helpful.
