Hi,

Just purchased a 1980's house in the Stuart area. Does anyone have recommendations for a contractor to remove the popcorn ceilings?

Thanks,

SP

Default Popcorn ceiling

Hi,
I don't know your age, but if you're young enough to stand on a ladder, it's an easy job to do yourself. Just get a spray bottle of water, give the area a squirt, then scrape the popcorn off with one of those little scrapers you'd use to spread plaster. It's messy work but not difficult at all.

I would refocus my search for a person to apply stucco ceiling, try Angie's List. The popcorn removal would be part of that job. Often some or part of the original sheet rock is damaged in the removal process. And the joints may need to be redone. All of that is basic job prep.

Thanks for the replies. If I was 10 years younger, I would do the work myself. I am used to, and prefer, smooth ceiling finishes. I guess that I won't know what quality of drywall job is under the popcorn until it is removed. There are a few smooth ceilings in the utility areas of the house and they look pretty good.

I will check out Angie's List and ask my new neighbors for recommendations for contractors when we arrive next week.

Merry Christmas!
