Giving serious consideration to retiring in Vero Beach. Is there any advantage to living in Vero Beach over Vero Beach South?

I've lived in Vero Beach for 3 years. I never heard of Vero Beach South.

[quote=floridasandy;5451880]lol. that is funny because i live in sebastian and was going to say the same thing, but did not want to seem dense. as far as i knew there was just one vero beach. vero beach would be a nice retirement town though and i can't think of anything bad to say about it especially if you like small town life.

There are some parts of Vero Beach that aren't as close to the beach and are more rural, like any waterfront community. I think you might be looking at some real estate listings that refer to Vero Beach South. If I recall, I saw such a description on a builder's web site, but I can't remember which one. I've been looking at real estate in different parts of FL as well as other states like SC. Vero Beach is pretty and safe, but it's a sleepy town most of the year. I stayed there for 2 weeks and thought it was lovely, but living in and visiting a place is an entirely different experience. I'm sure that, if I was able to live & work in Vero Beach, I'd find plenty of things to do.

I live on the West Coast of FL and I've seen the same type of ads when talking about Bonita Springs. People will often say "West of 41" which used to imply a different lifestyle, but that's not true any more. There are very exclusive, upscale communities East of Route 41 and even East of Interstate 75.

Default Google Maps Shows a 'Vero Beach South

FWIW, if you go to Google Maps and search for 'Vero Beach South, FL', you'll get a hit.

Also CityData has a listing for Vero Beach (pop. 17,000+) and a separate listing for Vero Beach South (pop. 20,000+).

For those of us who live in Vero Beach, there is no Vero Beach South but when you're compiling reports from far away, I suppose somehow you can define a line that denotes north from south in any city.

Does that mean that there is a single municipal government presiding over both entities?
