Vero Beach is terrific! We (husband and I) have been up/down the East Coast of FL and we just love VB. Good restaurants, quiet life style, plenty of shopping for my taste! The beaches are very nice and everyone we have met is friendly and helpful. Traffic is bad in the morning and between 4-5PM and that's it. Love the Book Depot (especially the used books) and the author visits. Riverside Park is gorgeous - the Museum is a wonderful place to spend the afternoon and the shows in Riverside theatre are great! Art Under the Oaks, boat shows, wine tasting - we do it all. You won't go wrong moving there... the only drawback is that the airports (WPB or ORL) are not as convenient as we would like - but we area willing to "suffer"

We love Vero Beach and in particular Sebastian - great for fishing!!!!!!! Plenty of areas to walk if you like walking and plenty of tennis courts dotted about in VB, Sebastian and Micco just further north of sebastian. Only half an hour away from Melbourne - great for shopping. One and a half hours from MCO (Orlando International airport) - and it isnt a hard drive....there are plenty of shopping to do if you like too - and there is always Port St Lucie or Palm Bay and Viera for days out if you want too.....

It's hot here in the summer... hot and humid as hell. I don't think there's anywhere in Florida that is not. It's just one of those trade offs for a beautiful winter.

Default Decisions, Decisions

The DW & I made our visit to VB as planned. On the + side, it is probably the most scenic, prettiest and cleanest town I've been to in the state. On the - side, the cost of owning RE is more than the average Joe can afford. (That seems to be true of most of the state, not just VB.)

If the cost of living was equal (or close) to my present location, the decision would be much, much easier. As it is, we're going to have to carefully weight the relocation decision. At least I should have plenty of time to think about it while I'm trying to stay warm and keep the snow drifts out of the driveway this winter.

There's something for everyone here, Easin. I think you can find something in VB, and elsewhere, for every budget.

during your visit, i recommend you do not use BEACH AND BEYOND. if you do, assume whatever you give them as a security deposit will be kept in its entirety.

we were completely ripped off by them. an owner with no recent inventory, no recent photos, and no proof claimed we took cd's and salt and pepper shakers and scuffed walls - now we are out 2000 dollars - be careful, they are NOT objective and do not have your best interests at heart

I grew up in Vero and it is a great place if you are retirement age. There is a leisurely pace to things there. Property on the island is pretty expensive, though there are still a few areas in between the bridges that aren't as much as the surrounding areas. If you can stand not living right on the beach there are also some very nice areas on the mainland side. The fingers area on the riverside just south of the 17th street bridge is nice and still on the intercoastal. The neighborhood north of Royal Palm Blvd. near the old Vero Beach Country club is also very nice. It's more affordable than the beach and has quick access to Miracle Mile, Royal Palm Point, and is a quick ride over the bridge from the beach.
