We originally were going to drive a Uhaul down, but my husband is reconsidering. Anyone have some recommendations for reputable movers who don't cost a fortune? We have a 2 bedroom plus some of my husbands work stuff (amounting to about a studio's worth).

Thank you for any recs.

I used a Penske truck. PODS sounds good, the only reason I didnt' was I was in a hurry to be there a specific time and they didnt have that schedule.

You get a firm quote cuz they give you a big "box" like a truck without the cab lol. They park it in your street and you go load all your stuff yourself. You may need more than one depending on your stuff and you may feel a big truck is more cost effective but for me it would have been fine.

Then they pick the pod(s) up and drive them to florida. I heard it's rattle-y and you have to pack tight.

They deliver it to your door OR to their storage facility till you're ready. Then they bring it and you unpack.

I definitely woulda used it except I have two little birds that live with me and they can't be in a big empty house freaking out without the things they are used to like their large cage and the sofa etc. I wanted their stuff in place and they were driving down with me in the car LOL.

They tell you how many days it'll take but it's not an exact appointment.

Driving down is a pain. You get stuck around DC traffic every time no matter what LOL. One year I had a bunch of gypsies try and break into my car in a rest stop in NC ....they were trying to distract me with a band of kids and ask me stupid questions about which way to Pennsylvania (on freaking i 95 north rest stop ha ha showing me a map to distract me with all the kids touchig me and stuff....but being married to a Greek I recognized the con...so as I yelled at them to get the h away and go get a job...the men were opening my Bronco door a few feet away but were shocked to find my son sitting there at six foot four. He yelled and they all ran away.

IF YOU RENT A TRUCK BE AWARE YOU MUST PULL INTO WEIGH STOPS. MY SON DID NOT AND THEY WERE VERY MEAN ABOUT THE WHOLE THING. I think there's only one up in northern florida.
