My son is new to the Portland area. He can't afford an apt. on his own so needs a roommate. How does one go about finding a responsible, sober roommate when you're new to the area? He is looking for an inexpensive place in Portland, So. Portland, Westbrook or Falmouth. (He'd kill me if he knew I was inquiring about this but he's getting pretty frustrated so just wanted to help him out.) Thanks in advance.

I would check with Student Services at the University of Southern Maine, University of New England (Portland Campus), and Southern Maine Community College. It would at least be a start.

Craigslist is a possibility; I got my room rental that way and have been there two years.

Thanks all for your suggestions. My son found a studio apt. in So. Portland that he could afford on his own, so no roommate. He's very happy and can't say enough about how friendly and helpful people are in Maine. As a mother, it couldn't please me more! Have a wonderful holiday season.
