Hey, i am a Floridian, and I want a change of scenery, so this summer I would like to consider moving up to Maine. I have family in the area, but we are not close.

I figure I could come up for a vacation, explore and maybe lock down a summer job and stay a while.

Any locals know of jobs off hand or the feel for jobs in the Portland area?

I am skilled in technology, (phones tablets, computers) interested in urban planning, parks and recreation, and the environment.

I realize i will most likely not waltz in and find my dream job, so that is ok, as long as I could find a room in a house, and some work.

I am 27 years old, have a bachelors degree, and am halfway done with my masters degree in Urban Planning.

I would not rule out staying for a year or so, and then finishing up school, or something like that.

That said, my biggest passions are being outside, (hiking, biking, disc golf, swimming, photography) I love parks and greenways, and spend most of my time there.

Im really into progressive places and really enjoyed my time in San Francisco and Portland, Oregon..

Do you think I would have a good time in Maine, based on this short intro?

Thanks for advice,

Well the summer is short and the winters are long but Portland is progressive.

I hope you are bringing a big chunk of money. Work isn't very easy to find in Maine but i'm sure as long as you don't mind a minimum wage job then you can find that. Portland isn't the cheapest town to live in either so like I said bring some cash.

If you have the funds to sustain yourself and don't mind the cold I think you will love Portland.

Well based on your experience & interests you'll want to look in Portland or Bangor.

There are Tech jobs here...city planning...well that might be hard to get into as a summer job.

as for even summer jobs...you might be a little late in looking. We're into summer already and summer is over in sept.

Your best bet is craigslist or How Maine Gets to Work | JobsInME.com or indeed. Since you aren't looking for a perm job and would consider contracting I suggest you make it easy by checking out Base36 in portland they have a number of contract gigs. You'll have to google them yourself.
