Smile Portland neighborhoods?

Greetings everyone!

We're thinking about relocating to Portland in the near future and are planning a visit to the city for sometime in late May. We were hoping someone could help us with some information about the different neighborhoods around Portland? We need to know stuff like what areas are too pricey for rentals, where the artists and bohemian-types tend to live (I'm a graphic designer/musician and my girlfriend is a massage therapist/yoga teacher), are there any neighborhoods we should avoid at all costs, etc., etc.? Any advice would be much appreciated so we will know where to look when we get there!

Thank you thank you thank you

you will fit right in. The Maine college of Art is right downtown. There are small music places on congress st and coffee shops, mullmoose music, and other small venues like that in the old port. Try to get something in west end or downtown. West end is generally expensive. East end is cheaper but a worse neighborhood.
