I would like to know if there is a quiet, peaceful place to live without a whole lot of people, that is tolerate of an ebony lady (early 30's). I don't want to bother anyone or anyone bothering me. I just want to be alone.

Your race is irrelevant.

Without a whole lot of people? Do you want to live on the edge of a forest or on agricultural land? You really need to be more specific.

I hear ya star500, some places I've lived have been so crowded with humanity I wanted to live in a cave on a mountain. One interesting thing about this area I've noticed (maybe due to urban growth boundary?) is that it changes from city to rural very quickly. Odds are you could find a place to live that was close to that edge that would be less populated. If you are worried about racism I can't speak to it directly but people here seem more accepting of differences in others in general and I can only hope that extends to race.

Were I she I would look for a home at the edge of Forest Park. Many would recommend Sauvie Island but personally their wells give me pause.

I live close to the edge of a suburban area, it takes me 30 minutes to get to downtown Portland. It's heaven out here. I'm wouldn't dream of living anywhere else in this area. It's rural but feels semi-rural due to the proximity to Gresham, Boring, Sandy. 10-15 mins. to each place.

I'm kinda iffy on race being irrelevant. I think it can be relevant at times. Where I live and pretty much all of Portland though, there are not a lot of black people but I do not think you would have any trouble at all where I live, especially if you present well physically (grooming, demeanor, countenance), which you probably do.

Does the Forest Service still have those fire-spotter jobs where you live in a tower on top of a hill in the middle of a national forest?

I don't think so. Even when they were in use it was a summer job only.

Star500:

Have you considered Eugene, Ore.?

I am just curious. One of the major reasons I selected Portland to move to was the larger, more dense urban vibes of Portland. While Eugene was rumored to have a more college-town, a more enclave set in a rural background, sort of existence. I have never lived in Eugene, so I don't know.

Portland's pretty dense and built for interaction nowadays. Vancouver, WA just across the river is more spread out and more territorial. A lot of former black Portlanders who left town and want to be left alone now live in Vancouver, largely for financial reasons and opportunities in a fast growing town, nothing more.
