Is it true that they are planning on putting a Little Italy in Portland? I came across some info on the internet but it was about two years old. Is it still in the works??

Thanks!

I dont know how you would "put" an ethnic neighborhood somewhere, with history, family, restaurants, markets and merchants....I think those type of things just happen?? Dont get me wrong, being from NYC...Im all for anything that would add some of those things..
When I was there a year ago, there was nothing I was aware of, and I was in restaurant development...

The original poster is probably referring to the restaurant chain Little Italy, which has locations across the country (but not in Oregon).

It seems too "forced" for PDX...I would love it, but even the location they are talking about has a tough "draw" for more then downtown traffic, especially with Pearl growing. I would think a new development in the Burnside...(nuf said about that street) and Ankeny....The businesses that are there now do well because it they fit in that area...a shiny NEW old Italian neigborhood would look like Kelcat says...Vegas-like for PDX....I wish them luck though..
