Electronics are surprisingly inexpensive here, so I second what other posters have recommended -- sell there, buy here. And one tip -- if you're not picky about high end items, you can get super cheap electronics on the website craigslist (craigslist.org, then choose Portland OR). It seems like everyone is giving away their old TVs, so if you don't need a flat screen, you'll probably be able to score some free TVs. And Blu-ray players have come way down in price (and DVD players are dirt cheap!). Even if you want all brand new items, you'll find reasonably priced stuff all over the place.

Default Need advice on moving company

Hi
As I said, that i will be moving from Zurich to Portland, OR soon. I have few boxes with used items (cloths, shoes, books etc) to ship. I have tried couple of moving companies (including UPS), but they quote more than the total value of the shipped items. Can anyone suggest me any company that may may undertake the job at a reasonable price ?

Thanks in advance

You could see what your air carrier charges for extra baggage.

Frankly UPS ground is the route many choose.

I agree, UPS ground route is so far the best quote.
I will not be traveling directly to Portland, so I had to drop the idea of extra baggage in air carrier. But, if I don't find anything else, probably I would take UPS.

Default renting or buying car

Hi all
another question regarding transportation. How long does it usually take to buy a used car and get all the papers ready ? As a foreigner, probably I also need to get a driver's lic with an year of my entry.

Is there a place where I can rent a car for a few weeks till I get my own.

Thanks in advance.

Couple of hours to a couple of days. Depends on if you're paying cash or getting it financed. If cash, you're in the couple of hours neighborhood. That is if you're buying from a dealer.

If you're buying from a third party, hand over the money and drive away with it. Take the registration down to DMV, pay the fee (under $100,) to register it in your name and go.

You should call up an insurance agent first to get temporary coverage.

I've heard that Beaverton Toyota is absolutely wonderful for renting cars. But pretty much any place that's not by the airport should be able to get you a pretty good deal.

Default which foreign DLs are valid in OR ???

Hi
another question ! which foreign driving license is valid in the state of Oregon. I will try to get an Oregon DL as soon as possible, but till that time i want to use my foreign DL. I checked the DMV website, it says that some foreign drivers are allowed to drive

Oregon DMV International Driving Privileges (http://www.oregon.gov/ODOT/DMV/driverid/licenseintl.shtml - broken link)

but it does not say which foreign DLs are valid.

Thanks
