As for being depressed by the weather--nope! Looking forward to warmer days but it's nice to see 4 separate seasons. I think we're going to check out skiing & snowboarding this weekend!
I'm a little nervous about driving in the snow myself. Last year on a trip to Bend in March, my mom did a 360 with my kids and I on board It was pretty scary. She just hit a little fresh snow wrong and there we were spinning across the 2 lane Hwy heading toward the trees! If and when I move to Portland, I will be sure to have an AWD!

But spring finally came, and I remembered why I moved here. The next few winters were tolerable, and now I actually enjoy them. The toughest part for me, having come from Atlanta, was the late sunrises and early sunsets, but now that's just "normal" to me.

That's what I keep telling my hubby. I tell him from what I've read on here, many people seem to go from dreading the "gloomy, wet" weather to actually loving it after a few years. Personally, I look forward to it!

The best part about summer is the length of the day!
We were in Seattle last summer and noticed that it stayed light out much longer than it does here. It was great!

One of the things I love about Portland are all of the turn of the century homes. I have always loved older homes that are unique with tons of character, but worry about all that comes with them

There are two very unique ones at SE 32nd and Main with gingerbread facades and copulas. They really make you feel you are in the Victorian era. They remind me of the many homes like that in Galena Illinois.

Check them out sometime if you haven't already. In the same area is the house built by the man who created gardenburgers. It is built in the South Western style.

There's another cluster of Victorian gingerbreaded homes on SW 1st Ave. just south of Arthur St. (which leads to/from the Ross Island Bridge).

Thanks for that. I will be sure to drive by these homes on our next trip there!

Figmalt - I've been through some of the worst winter weather imaginable, so unless you get down to 50 below with the windchill and 5-foot snowdrifts, I think I might be pretty happy.
