hi folks. i'm taking up a job at intel so my family is gonna move to portland late summer/fall. i'm looking at SFHs in the forest heights neighborhood. i'm interested in knowing the safety (have kid and i'll be commuting by bike, sometimes rather late) and availability of playgrounds for my young son. also on my mind are HOA issues--how restrictive are the HOA rules in forest heights? thanks a bunch.

Riding a bike on Cornell Road... if you were a member of my family I would say "NO WAY!" There just isn't enough room on the road to do that safely. I drove that road daily from NW Portland to NIKE for several years.

Here is the website of the Forest Heights HOA: Forest Heights Homeowners Association

I really can't comment on parks & kids activities in that development. My experiance is on the other side of the hill.

A lot of hardcore bike commuters I know will avoid that road at all costs. Most take MAX through the tunnels.

WAY back in the day I rode a bike (3-speeds were then state of the art) from NW Portland up Canyon Road to Highlands Riding Academy which was situated where the clinics on Westgate Drive were built. Foolish risk taking is par for the course for young teens, not appropriate for folks with responsibilities.

I moved to Forest Heights and the HOA is extremely restrictive and discriminatory. If I had to do it over again would never have brought property here. Wes the Compliance titled person is rude and disrespectful and knows nothing about property rights.
