I would stand firm at the negotiation table, but ..... The population would scream when the Union thugs go on strike and transportation falls apart. There is "Fair" wage, and there is the "As much as I can get" wage. The unions want as much as they can get. Like anyone else, I would have to give in to the Unions in order to serve the people. At some point this must stop, but the public must be behind it.

Now you see why I have never had union support.

Other cities have had union strikes of public transportation members. I was living in Chicago when one took place many years ago. The public didn't like it of course but it brought both parties to the bargaining table pretty quickly. As I remember correctly, it wasn't a win-win for either side but wound up in a compromise.

I am not advocating this but if it ever came down to it, it might finally end some of this bickering and the public might finally be heard. Who knows?

This is analagous to someone who goes out and buys a Porsche and then complains that cars are too expensive. Well yeah, cars aren't cheap, but I'm sure you would have gotten around fine in a Honda.

There's an "analogy" in there? Must have a cloaking shield on.

Current Oregon law is no strike/no lock out for public transportation.

I hear that the union is trying to get that changed. But I can't verify that.

Did you actually read the story? An average increase of 3% after a 3 1/2 year wage freeze. So less than 1% a year while the union employee's got 3% a year during the same period.

Did you get less that 1% a year for the last 3 years? If so, how did that fit into your budget with inflation?
