This is kind of a silly question, i know...

But is it possible to get a NATURAL tan in Portland? No tanning beds...but from the sun?!

I have never stayed during the summer so I don't know how sunny or intense the rays get up here.

You bet. I went fishing a couple of weeks ago (mid March) and was surprised to see a tan line when I removed my watch.

I get a tan every summer(and sometimes by spring time). Sometimes just from a day or two working in the garden/yard or going for a hike.

If you want to tan in the winter, take a trip to San Diego or Hawaii, which makes for a great escape from the gray skies when they are getting to you.

Yep. I developed a tan last summer from riding my bike to work 2-3 days a week.

In the spring/winter/fall months, generally not, unless you don't mind being outside on a 50 degree sunny day. More so east of the Cascades, though - e.g. we were at Kah-Nee-Ta recently on a 65-70 degree day and my wife/kids all got pink.

In the summer, MOST DEFINITELY.

Yes. Summers in the PNW are extremely sunny, albeit short.

Tanning is not a seasonal or regional thing. It is about how much you get out in the sun. Some say you should avoid it at all costs. Others say get naked and live in the sun. But it will depend on how much you go out in it yourself, not where you live or the time of year. You need about an hour a day for vitamin "D" absorption.

Summers in Oregon last just as long as anyplace else. They just have a little more rain. The growing Season in Oregon is one of the longest in the nation.
