I have my eye on Vancouver, WA, but when looking for homes I see so much new construction of cookie cutter homes and am concerned about the rapid growth of this area. I'm leaving a town that was a sleepy little beach town once upon a time and now is feeling the pain of sharply increased population. My kids are in college, but I do need to work (medical field) and am looking for a community with the physical beauty of the northwest as well as a generally educated, professional population. Any Oregon or Washington towns come to mind?

How about Eugene, OR? The college and my understanding is that it is very, very pretty.
