He came here to stay a few weeks and get his own job and place. Last week he told me he was receiving mail at my house so he could stay as long as he wanted.
he has no job, no transportation and no job prospects.
I am a widow who was doing someone a favor. Now I am lost as to what to do.
Is there a company that does the eviction?
Do I have any rights?
Does anyone have advice on what I should do?

Contact the police via their non-emergency phone number and ask. If anything, you'd be able to get an officer to take him off your property.

If you own your home then I think you should pay a visit to your local police agency and request to speak to an officer available for advice. If you rent, I can see this being a stickier situation.

Have you actually asked him to leave or given him a deadline?

Exactly. Ask him to leave by 'X' day. It's your house, not his, making it your 'right' to ask him to leave any time you want. If he doesn't comply, call the police. Or, have a mature conversation with him about what you expected when he first came to stay with you.

The police cannot help at first. Contact a lawyer familiar in Landlord/Tenant law or a Landlord/Tenant law advocacy group. I think if he has been there 30 days and can establish residency (mail being delivered) you have to first give them 30 days notice to leave. Even if he doesn't pay rent. If on day 31 they are not gone you go to the courthouse and file eviction papers. You'll get a court date and the judge will issue an order for him to leave. If he still refuses the Sheriff comes and gets him for you.

Now I could be wrong and you may be able to get him out sooner but you'll need someone who knows the laws in OR.

dont be hard on yourself you were trying to help.
if he did not pay rent
change the locks and call the cops.
i have church friends that have experienced the same.
people that give too much and love too much are their prey.

YEp, I believe you do have to go through the 30 day notice. Wow that is insane! In Texas, you put their crap on the lawn, change the locks and go on with your life. Or you just have the sheriff take them away.

Even in liberal Austin, I can't see a single Sheriff's office not taking up immediately for a widow and taking him out or off to jail for illegal trespass. I'd also take his mail and write "Not at this address" and drop it off in a local blue box.

No. This has nothing to do with 'liberal' or 'conservative' tenant-landlord laws. This is not, as described so far, a tenant-landlord relationship.

If there was no lease signed and no payments received you do not have to go through a '30 day notice' or anything of the sort as there is no precedent. This is similar to inviting a friend over for dinner and them deciding they're not leaving for the night. Call the police if you can not resolve this civilly.
