Hello. I am from California and am going to be applying for residency in Oregon, and I need to take the written DMV test because I already have my CA Driver's License. To be honest, I really don't want to read the ENTIRE Oregon manual, so I was wondering if anyone could help me out. What are the main differences between Oregon and CA driving regulations? I know the U-Turn law is a big one...but is there anything else? Anything regarding pedestrians?

The law regarding bike lanes is unique, then there is one that permits a 'free' left turn that I have never been able to figure out. In Oregon pedestrians always have the right of way (or so it seems), if they even look like they are about to step off the curb at a corner or marked crossing be prepared to stop.

Those are the ones that come to my mind at the moment.

Be sure to read the section that discusses The Basic Rule, and school zone rules.

There is a huge difference in the enforcement of speed limits in Oregon. In CA if you are keeping pace with the cars around you no problem. Here they pick off the pack. Oregon enforces its speed limits.

In all seriousness, just read the manual. I assumed I had some idea how to drive, being that I've successfully passed two driving tests in different states and have been driving for almost 20 years. I took the OR test a couple of weeks ago and failed it the first time. I then read the manual, which was insanely long, but passed with flying colors the next day. No one wants to read the manual, but it's worth reading, especially since there are some odd laws here and no one wants to be ticketed.

I second "Read the manual" or you may find yourself without a license.

Don't run them over. Be sure to at least look up the law regarding how far across the crosswalk peds have to be before you turn.

I also suggest reading the manual. I came close to failing it the first time I took it because I didn't know the alcohol laws. Being a non-drinker, I didn't feel it necessary to learn them. I swear I was asked every alcohol related question in the test bank.

And you will get several Motorcycle related questions. We pay extra for a MC endorsement to get those questions on every test.
