There is a Witchita Hardware store, a Witchita Pub, was a Witchita School, and is now a Witchita Community Center in Clakamas/Milwaukie. I think there is some Witchita Center strip mall down there. Anyone know where the name "Witchita" came from? Some Kansas expatriate to Oregon?

As far as I can find, the Wichita school district came first, in 1931. I assume it's from Kansas, but couldn't find any record.

Nice history. Thank you. But the origin of the name Wichita (pardon my original mispelling) is still a mystery.

Do you mean other than being of Native American origin?

In late 19th century there was a property called Wichita Station in Clackamas County.

It was developed by George Parry who named it after his old hometown, Wichita, Kansas.

That might be the answer. As I suspected, it sounds like the name came from some Kansas expatriate.

Topozone actually plots a Wichita Station on Johnson Creek Blvd, and Wichita just south of Johnson Creek Blvd, between Wichita Avenue and Stanley Avenue. Maybe that was Parry's property. Wichita Station might have been a station on the railroad line that used to run through there.
