I'm planning a summer day trip along the Oregon coast.
I'll be based in Portland at that time.
What is the best extent of the coast to focus on? Northern, or Central? Etc, etc.
Prioritizing spectacular scenery.
I've already done the Olympic Peninsula coast up here in WA a couple years ago.
Thank you in advance, folks of Portland area cd.

If you are going to be based in Portland and you only have one day to spend on the coast... if it was me I would take OR26 west till it ends. You could go north to Astoria but I never have. Cannon Beach are your first 3 exits south on OR101. Cannon Beach is very popular and touristy. Its worth a look. Maybe lunch and a walk on the beach to see Haystack Rock. But you will want to get in the car and go south of Cannon Beach at least down to Nehalem. On the way there will be a number of scenic overlooks to park at and look at the Pacific from fairly high up. The next beach south of Cannon Beach is Arcadia Beach. It is small and not very touristy. People still find Agates there. Manzanita is the next town south of Arcadia Beach and we stay there a lot. The beach is large and sandy and although there are tons of houses overlooking the beach there aren't tons of people actually on the beach. South of Manzanita is Nehalem (Wheeler). It is off the ocean, a bay actually. No waves but quite scenic. I can't see having much time to go even further south and (IMO) the scenery doesn't change enough to make it worth the time given that you have just one day.

Nothing has changed since the last time you asked the same question. Why are you asking again?

Read through that thread. It was three weeks ago, or did you already forget?
