I thought I would post this from ODOT because I recall someone on one of the threads suggesting using a bus running to the coast.

SALEM – Effective May 15, 2017, Valley Retriever Buslines, providing daily round trips between Newport and Bend and between Newport and Portland, has closed. Last week, Valley Retriever notified the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration that it would not meet the May 15 deadline for addressing safety-related violations noted in a March 2017 review. ODOT’s Rail and Public Transit Division maintains a website listing transportation options and is working with other transit providers to help travelers make connections.
