Catlin Gabel vs. L.O. schools
May I ask , Why is Catlin Gabel rated so high next to L.O. or Lakeridge High Schools ? The scores show C G with reading and math scores around 100 pts higher on SAT stats. I never saw an answer . This is per the U.S. News story you may have read . Also Beaverton Science and Math rated high ! What's the lowdown ? I await the info on Catlin Gabel.....

Remember, CG draws from a very narrow segment of the community while LO and Lakeridge are a public schools which serve an entire community and provide full sports programs. When you are paying big tuition bills your academic expections of your student and their teacher are high. Same with OES. Public vs private HS, Jesuit HS is maybe a better comparison to LO area.

Catlin Gable is the most elite private school in Oregon, so it's no surprise that its scores are quite high. The Lake Oswego public schools, though solid, underperform relative to the (high) socioeconomic status of the residents of LO. As you mentioned some of the top schools in Beaverton are probably better than in LO.

I don't think there is any "most elite" private school in Oregon. As one who could have sent her kids to that school and knew several who did attend, I know that it isn't certain that their students give their parents their money's worth. Frankly Oregonians aren't into "elite", they know that what is important is that an educational program fits the child.

Oregonians are definitely not very elitist, and private schools are way less popular in Oregon than many other parts of the country. Still, I think if you asked Portlanders what the best private school in the area was, most would say Catlin Gabel, though OES is right up there.

OES is Oregon Episcopal School. Entry into their high school is competitive, very competitive. Attending their primary school is no guarantee of admission.

Well Catlin Gabel is an expensive private school in NW Portland. Lake Oswego public school district is in L.O. Practical concerns such as cost and transportation often dictate these sorts of decisions.

Heck, if I was paying $17K a year to send my kid to private school, they kind of need to be bringing home As and scoring well on their tests. Otherwise, what am I paying for?!

LO has consistently held its own when compared to private schools. Many times LO has even surpassed private schools in terms of SAT scores and state testing.
The last I heard every school in the Lake Oswego School District, K-12, was ranked exceptional by the state of Oregon. Lake Oswego is the only large public school district in Oregon to have every single school in their district ranked 'exceptional'.
