My husband and I currently live in the Sacramento area with our daughter who is 2. We have a chance to move to Portland but all we have been hearing is that it is really expensive. I think CA is bad and we want a lifestylw which we can afford. We can't afford a home here to be honest. We want good schools and love Portland's weather. I heard you can't find anything under 400K in the good areas?!

We aren't from CA. So, is it true that the cost of living is comparable to CA? We would like to spend 300K-400K on a 2000 sq foot home in a good area. Is that unrealistic? I just don't want to move and then find out we are in the same position that we are here in CA.

Thanks.

It all depends on what you consider a "good area".

You can definitely find a 2,000 sq ft home within Portland that has good schools within your price range.

If you can give some examples of what you want to be near, what you want to avoid, what it important to you etc. we can give you some suggestions for areas to check out.

You can buy a very nice home in a very nice SUBURBAN community with good schools that is close to downtown in that price range. If you want to live IN portland in a top school area, that's going to be a stretch. Tigard, Sherwood have good schools. They are not my type of area, but if you are not turned off by the suburbs, they are fine.
