I have a friend who is pregnant and I have been picking things up for her baby here and there, onesies, diapers, wipes, etc.
It has added up to a lot of stuff and her shower is this weekend.
Here is my question: Would you rather have this wrapped or have it contained in something else you can also use? I do have a basket for some of the things that is lined and says Baby Things on the edge.
If you would like to have it put in something, what would you suggest?
I haven't been a new mom for quite some time but one of the best gifts I got was a wicker laundry basket which was lined in a wonderful juvenile fabric and had pockets. It was tied with self fabric ties which made the whole thing washable. Two friends went in together - one made the basket and the other filled it with goodies. We used that basket as a toy basket for many years. I always give gifts like wedding, shower gifts in something useful rather than spend money on a gift bag and tissues which will most likely be tossed.
I would add the idea that the gift bags be non-event specific...meaning that several brightly colored bags will be more useful to use again then several bags with storks and baby boy / girl themes. I love using gift bags, but there are only so many baby showers to attend amongst my friends.
I'm currently 34 weeks pregnant and I can definitely say I'd prefer something in a basket/container that could be reused rather than wrapping paper! Good luck!
I don't know what your friend's style is, but I always liked gender neutral traditional wicker type baskets which could be used for toys/stuffed animals down the road. (I know I use them all over my house for my little ones and their toys. )
