this is my mom's question, any answers are appreciated

I am 9 Weeks 5days pregnant. For five days now I have had light spotting on and off which was pinkish and kind of mucousy. I called the doctor when it started five days ago and they said of I didn't have pain or cramps or really heavy bleeding then It was more than likely normal. So fast forward to today I go for my regular checkup and tell the doctor I am still spotting but without pain. He ordered an ultrasound in which the technician said the baby stopped growing at 7Weeks. There is an embryo/fetus (don't know what it's called at this stage) and a sac, but it is measuring 7 Weeks and could not detect a heartbeat. Doctor said I could do a d&c or wait a dew days for another ultrasound. I have not had any cramping at all and I am still gaining weight and feel pregnant. I saw the embryo on the screen too. Is it possible they are mistaken. Also, it was am abdominal ultrasound not transvaginal and I only had an hour to drink three cups of water.

I'm sorry. There is a remote chance that it could be a mistake, but the odds are not good. Seeing a heartbeat on ultrasound should be pretty easy at 9 weeks. I had a similiar thing happen (at around 14 weeks for me). It's hard to accept - I opted not to have a D&C and miscarried naturally 2 days after we found out there was no heartbeat. I still felt pregnant too... truth is, your body still has all the crazy hormones going on. Unless your doctor thinks there is a risk of immediate infection, you should be able to wait a couple days to see if you spontaneously miscarry. I didn't get the impression that having a D&C was something I had to decide on that minute. Ask to have the ultrasound re-done in a couple days if you have doubts and haven't miscarried.

It is possible they are mistaken, which is why you can wait and do another ultrasound. It is probably only delaying the inevitable. My sister went through this. She waited and miscarried naturally, too. I'm sorry.
